Q&A with Patrick
What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?
I am passionate about holding space for others to engage with their process of healing — to help bring people back to themselves. I want to be a steward of this medicine to help promote and share the concept of natural, holistic health care. And strive to create and practice more equity and inclusion in our current health care system. Personally, I am passionate about native plants and music!
What three traits define you?
Compassion, humility, humor.
What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
How long have you been working in your field?
Fresh out of my four-year acupuncture and herbalism program, but have been working with bodies for ten years teaching yoga and working alongside chiropractors.
What’s your biggest accomplishment?
Graduating TCM school and passing licensing boards.
What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
Orange Julius trailer at the San Diego County fair when I was 14.
How does your education connect to your professional career? What about personal experiences?
Besides the thousands of hours of TCM training, I also received an MFA in acting in my earlier life. The study of human behavior, emotion, movement, relationship, and psychology absolutely shapes my practice today. Personally, I also continuously learn invaluable lessons and wisdom studying native plants and ecosystems. Nature is our greatest teacher!
What problems do you consistently solve for your clients?
Pain, stress, fatigue, anxiety, sleep issues, menstrual issues, digestion.
Who is your ideal client and why should they connect with you?
Literally anyone! This medicine is truly endless and can help with so many different imbalances. I enjoy working most with people who are passionate and dedicated to working with themselves and their bodies
to begin a journey of healing. And anyone curious about the power of this medicine and the power of their body!
In your work or creative process, what concepts are sacred? Which rules have you made, which ones do you follow?
Stay humble. Question authority. Keep learning. Find wonder.
Do you have any family members or pets to include in your bio?
My amazing wife Dana and my adorable cat Boss.
Do you have any other passions of personal goals that you would like to share?
Very passionate about saving native plants and ecosystems. Myself and my partner (and friends) have planted hundreds of Midwest native plants in our Chicago backyard with hopes of improving pollinator and bird habitat, soil quality and flood control, halting the spread of invasive plants, and forging relationship with sustainable native agriculture. I also have planted (and manage from afar) two other native plant gardens for family in the southern California coastal chaparral areas. Very grateful and lucky to be able to do it.
What do you do for fun in your spare time? What are your hobbies?
I love to dance and see live music. I spend endless hours tending to the gardens and watching birds. I write and produce music. I try to get out into wilderness and hike or bike as much as I can. And spend time with loved ones celebrating these brief moments we have.
