About Monique

Monique Wheeler, L.Ac., Dipl.OM, MSTOM, graduated from Pacific College of Health and Science in 2008 with a Master’s degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine. Formerly a city planner, she began her journey as an acupuncturist after experiencing her own profound healing through regular acupuncture treatment and Chinese Herbal medicine. Before joining Aligned Modern Health Monique had her own private practice for 14 years where she focused on chronic and acute immune system disorders, acute and chronic pain, orthopedic conditions, anxiety, depression, headaches, migraines and fertility. She enjoys working with a wide variety of health concerns as well as different patient populations, including pediatrics and older adults. After years of experience she is still amazed at the power of acupuncture and how profoundly patients can heal through consistent treatment.

Q&A with Monique

What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?

I’m really excited about complicated health issues and helping patients heal through unraveling the complexities of their condition. I always see possibilities for healing, even when someone has been struggling for a long time with a condition. There is nothing more exciting than watching someone’s health improve and their life blossom. It’s also very rewarding to help women get pregnant and have healthy babies.

Personally I’m really passionate about climate change, exercise, spiritual growth and natural medicine. Even if I wasn’t an acupuncturist, I’d be learning as much as I could about natural healing.

What three traits define you?

Kind, Passionate, Friendly

What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?

Acupuncture 😊

What are you surprisingly good at?

Jewelry making.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?

Coffee

How long have you been working in your field?

14 years

What’s the biggest proof that you’re good at what you do?

That I’ve seen some of my patients for a decade, or sometimes longer.

What’s your biggest accomplishment?

My biggest accomplishment was finishing acupuncture school. PCOM offers rigorous training as one of the best acupuncture schools in the country. It prepared me well to treat patients, although practicing has increased the depth of my skills and abilities.

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?

It’s not very weird, but I worked as a bookkeeper for a natural food store, although I had no experience or training as a bookkeeper.

What problems do you consistently solve for your clients?

Relieving pain, reducing stress, and improving energy. I also love to solve the mystery of why someone has an issue.

What are you complimented on most in your work?

My compassion and dedication to helping my patients achieve their goals. Patients regularly tell me how much I have helped them.

In your work or creative process, what concepts are sacred? Which rules have you made, which ones do you follow?

In work, my relationship with my patients is sacred. The concept patient/doctor confidentiality is very important and the basis to establishing a therapeutic relationship. Forming a genuine connection with patients is very important to me.

Do you have any other passions or personal goals that you would like to share?

I love cross country skiing and snow.

What do you do for fun in your spare time? What are your hobbies?

In my spare time I love to make jewelry, read, exercise and take my two cats for a walk. I also love British mysteries!

Share something unique that most people don’t know about you.

When I was in 3rd grade I was on a local TV show called “Kidding Around” where I answered letters from other children viewers and explored fun stuff for kids to do around Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
