On National Deep Dish Pizza Day, we’re tossing around a few of our favorite healthy pizza ideas from Aligned Modern Health’s Clinical Nutrition team!
What kind of person doesn’t like pizza?
Alright… that’s a (cheesy) joke. But for those of us with food sensitivities and dietary guidelines, we sometimes feel left out of the pizza party.
From types to toppings, pizza is all about creativity anyways. So, in reality, the skies the limit when it comes to healthy twists for your pie. As accommodations for food sensitivities grow, there are several ways to enjoy a healthier-style pizza.
Our Clinical Nutrition expert and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist Sue Smith, MS, LDN, offers a few of her favorite “pizza-inspired” recipe finds:

▽ Eggplant Pizza Rounds from Clean and Delicious
▽ Zucchini Pizza Boats from Well Plated
✓ Crust can be customized. As the meme goes, if cauliflower can become a pizza, you too can do anything! These days, you can find a variety of store-bought pizza crusts—frozen or pre-made—and gluten-free options on most restaurant menus these days. Just be sure to look closely at all ingredients.
✓ Choose your cheese. Similarly, if you are limiting dairy, you can now find dairy-free, vegan-friendly options like Daiya Pizza and Amy’s in the frozen section at the store, Or if you opting for a lighter cheese, look for part-skim mozzarella, sharp provolone, and naturally lower-fat Parmesan.
✓ Don’t forget the veggies… add ‘em to the top or be sure to serve with a salad!
