This week we are honoring National Infertility Awareness Week. Our acupuncturist and fertility expert, Dr. Kate Phillippi, L.Ac, Dipl. OM, DACM share some wisdom with you all.
“In honor of National Infertility Awareness Week, I want to share what this week means to me. Working with infertility patients in clinic is my life’s work, my passion, and my reason for coming into clinic every day. When I was in school studying Chinese medicine and I learned how intricate and synchronized the menstrual cycle and reproduction was, I was fascinated. When I learned how beneficial Chinese medicine is in treating reproductive health conditions, I knew I wanted to focus my studies on infertility and other reproductive conditions. This led me to seek out and attend continuing education courses and conferences specifically related to reproductive health. I became a fellow of The American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine to further advance my knowledge and then share that knowledge with my patients.
I am in awe of the strength, perseverance and resiliency of infertility patients. I have witnessed miracles and heartbreak over the years and through it all, these patients are so graceful in their pain and joy. The ups and downs of the fertility journey are taxing on a person—emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually, etc. These facets of infertility make treating each patient a complex clinical picture that demands specific treatment plans and recommendations.
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to do a webinar with Dr. Angie Beltsos and Dr. Roohi Jeelani of Vios Fertility Institute and Dr. Lamya Kamel, the Director of Acupuncture at Aligned Modern Health. This collaboration has been wonderful for our patients. We have been doing pre- and post-embryo transfer in their West Loop clinic for the past 2 years. I have seen the benefits of working hand-in-hand with reproductive endocrinologists and infertility specialists as it allows our mutual patients’ care to be comprehensive, tailored to her/his needs and supportive of their mind, body and spirit. The recorded webinar is below for you to listen to, especially right now when you may be on a break from a cycle or just beginning to think about seeking support for fertility. All of our email addresses are available at the end of the presentation and we encourage you to reach out with any questions.
