Cervical radiculopathy, often called a “pinched nerve,” occurs when nerve roots in the neck become compressed or inflamed. This can lead to pain, numbness, or weakness that radiates from the neck into the shoulders, arms, or hands. While it can affect anyone, it is most common in people in their 40s and 50s. Without proper care, this condition can disrupt daily function and quality of life.
Neck pain radiating into the shoulders, arms, or hands
Tingling, burning, or “shock-like” sensations
Numbness or weakness in the arms or hands
Loss of coordination, especially in the hands
Reduced range of motion in the neck and upper back
Cervical radiculopathy develops when the nerve roots in the neck are compressed or irritated, disrupting the signals between the brain and upper body. Common causes include:
Degenerative changes: Age-related disc degeneration can place pressure on cervical nerves.
Herniated discs: Repetitive bending, twisting, or lifting can push disc material outward, compressing nerve roots.
Spinal instability: Injury or connective tissue disorders can cause excess movement of spinal bones, increasing nerve compression.
Postural strain: Chronic poor posture may exacerbate nerve compression and muscle tension.

At Aligned Modern Health, we use a comprehensive, root-cause approach to diagnosis. Your evaluation may include:
Detailed physical examination and movement assessment
Neurological testing to identify nerve involvement
Imaging studies, if needed, to evaluate disc or bone changes
A functional evaluation of posture, alignment, and muscle balance

We focus on relieving nerve compression, restoring mobility, and reducing inflammation through a personalized care plan. Our treatments may include:
Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care is often the first-line approach for cervical radiculopathy. Our doctors use gentle spinal adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and functional rehabilitation to relieve pressure on nerves, improve alignment, and restore movement. Many patients see meaningful improvement in one to six months.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture supports the body’s natural healing response, improving circulation to the affected area, calming the nervous system, and reducing pain. It is often used in combination with chiropractic care for enhanced results.
Functional Medicine (If Related)
For patients whose symptoms are influenced by inflammation or underlying health conditions, our functional medicine team may recommend an anti-inflammatory nutrition plan, targeted supplementation, and lifestyle changes to support healing.
