Q&A with Dr. Magee

What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?

I’m passionate about conveying to my patients that there are physicians who genuinely care about them and their health concerns. Personally, I’m passionate about consistently pushing myself to learn new things and leave my comfort zone.

What three traits define you?

Empathetic. Curious. Determined.

What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?

Volunteer for medical missions trips overseas

What’s one thing you’re surprisingly good at?

I’m quite good at knitting.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?

As cliché as it sounds, my dog Whiskey really is my fur-child and best friend! Currently we are attempting to learn how to do agility dog courses together. It’s still a work in progress.

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?

During the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak I returned to work as a paramedic doing temperature screenings/COVID care for one of the largest construction contractors in Chicago. I would walk through demolished buildings with a hard hat and safety vest checking all the worker’s temperatures on a daily basis.

How does your education connect to your professional career? What about personal experiences?

I chose the educational path as a Doctor of Chiropractic due to the focus on nutrition and preventative primary care medicine. When I was working on the ambulance as a Critical Care Paramedic I took care of patients on the brink of death on a regular basis. Most disease processes do not occur overnight, and I decided to spend the rest of my career focusing on preventing the catastrophic health emergencies I saw while on the ambulance. I can now leverage my experience in seeing chronic diseases become acute emergencies with the knowledge of how to prevent or treat the chronic issues at their root cause.
