About Dr. Mikrut

Alexis Mikrut, DC, MS is a graduate of National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL. She received her Master Degree in Functional Medicine and Human Nutrition from the University of Western States. Dr. Mikrut attended the University of Illinois where she received her a bachelor of science in Integrative Biology.

Alexis started studying Functional Medicine while in chiropractic school by taking seminars focused on functional medicine and clinical nutrition and through her master’s degree program. Prior to joining the functional medicine team at Aligned Modern Health, she interned with AMH.

Alexis’ practice focuses on improving health through the use of nutrition, lifestyle management and supplements. She enjoys managing an array of patient cases from autoimmunity to women’s health. She also enjoys helping those who are free of diagnosable ailments but wish to optimize their health.

What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?

Professionally, I am most passionate about helping people live life to their full potential by achieving optimal health.

Personally, I am passionate about continually optimizing my own health and aspiring to live a full life. I am passionate about continuingly fostering relationships with my family and friends. I am also very passionate about my faith, helping others and doing what I can to make the world a better place.

What three traits define you?

Caring, kind and hardworking. My caring personality is seen in always wanting the best for others and doing anything in my power to help one achieve this. My kindness is reflected in the way I always hope for the best for others and do what I can to help other’s live their best lives. My hardworking personality can be seen in my dedication to my career and endurance running.

What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?

Help others! I am so passionate about lending a helping hand to someone in need.

What are you surprisingly good at?

Cooking. I love trying out new, healthy recipes.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?

My faith and running shoes.

What’s your biggest accomplishment?

Completing my Master’s degree and my doctorate at the same time.

How does your education connect to your professional career? What about personal experiences?

Since undergrad, my education has been tailored for a future career in functional medicine. I knew when I started chiropractic school that I wanted to specialize in functional medicine and all my course work and seminars outside of the classroom have been centered on this passion.

Since I was a child, I had great chiropractors who improved my health with the use of functional medicine and clinical nutrition. This helped motivate me to want a career in this field so that I could have the same impact on my patients.

What are you complimented on most in your work?

One of the most flattering compliments that I often receive is my willingness to always go to extra mile for a patient.

Who is your ideal client and why should they connect with you?

My ideal patient is anyone who is wanting to optimize their health. No matter where they are currently in their health journey or what conditions they may want help managing, being ready to improve their health makes them a perfect patient.

What is your grand, audacious goal? What do you wish people would know, believe, do?

I want to help all my patients heal in both mind and body. The power of the mind is so important in the healing process. Self- love and self- care can’t be overlooked. I wish people would understand the power of the mind and how important positive outlook is on health.

What do you do for fun in your spare time? What are your hobbies?

Spending time with family and friends is very important to me. I love to run. I have ran 4 full marathons and a 50 mile ultramarathon. I love to cook and try out new healthy recipes. I enjoy maintain my professional instagram account as a platform to share my passion for health, wellness and running. I love reading, especially about the field of functional medicine and nutrition.

Share something unique that most people don’t know about you.

I play the harp. I started playing when I was in grade school after seeing a harpist at Church and was so inspired that I learned to play.
