Heather Lovegood has been practicing Massage Therapy/Bodywork since she graduated in 2007 from TIBIA Massage School in Madison, WI. Over the years her experience along with continuing education has deepened her practice of swedish, sports, deep tissue, prenatal, energy work & thai bodywork. Complementing her massage practice, Heather became a Holistic Health Coach with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, completed Yoga Instructor training for adults and children, and received a certificate as a Holistic Radical Doula. The knowledge and wisdom gained has informed and shaped her approach to massage/bodywork. At the center is the belief that the body has everything it needs to heal, if given a chance. Removing barriers to healing is at the heart of her work, compassionately and intuitively tending to the complete human – mind, body & soul. Life and earth are teachers and she is a forever student.
Q&A with Heather
What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?
Most passionate about health and healing – all the pathways one can take to achieve those things. I am passionate about self-realization, autonomy, self-care and how this inherently impacts the world as a whole. “Peace begins with me” is a motto learned in yoga teacher training and it holds true. Food is medicine and that has proved to be the case for me in my healing journey as well.
What three traits define you?
I wouldn’t say anything defines me – but I guess I would say the trait of adaptability is one I rely on heavily, along with compassion and empathy and integrity.
What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?
Help and be of service to people. Life is challenging and having someone to help carry the load makes it all the better, doesn’t matter what it is. I would attend births and end of life transitions as well. I basically love being present for human beings.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
What’s the biggest proof that you’re good at what you do?
The glow and lightness in someone’s eyes after we complete a session.
How long have you been working in your field?
What’s your biggest accomplishment?
Navigating a really challenging loss with grace.
What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
I worked in construction for a summer, grating gravel and filling in soil after sidewalks were repaired.
How does your education connect to your professional career? What about personal experiences?
My personal experiences, especially navigating grief and traumatic loss, really had me dig deep into what this being human thing is all about. What impacts us, from before we are born – through childhood and into adulthood. I wanted to learn and understand so I sought out education and experiences that would deepen my understanding and thereby support my own healing and allow me to develop wisdom and compassion for others experiences.
What problems do you consistently solve for your clients?
Stress relief, embodiment, hip/low back tension
What are you complimented on most in your work?
Presence, approach, complete “whole person” attention, creating a safe space
Who is your ideal client and why should they connect with you?
My ideal client is someone who is open to connecting all parts of themselves – relating to themselves as whole beings, and therefore their body being connected to emotional, mental and spiritual states of being as well. People who are intrigued by how the body/mind/soul work intrinsically. I work hard to not “should” – so I trust that people who are interested will connect with me.
In your work or creative process, what concepts are sacred? Which rules have you made, which ones do you follow?
Only rule is to operate from love and spiritual guidance. Sacred concepts are unlearning everything that gets in the way of love and spiritual guidance.
What is your grand, audacious goal? What do you wish people would know, believe, do?
Great question – not sure I have one. I wish people would know that they are inherently good and worthy because they exist. I wish they would believe this about themselves and other humans so that they would act accordingly, end violence, abuse and trauma – leading to a healthier, happier world. Perhaps that is my grand audacious goal – to contribute what I can to that end.
Where do you live? Edgewater Neighborhood
Do you have any family members or pets to include in your bio?
My partner in life Mary, a lover of dogs, nature, sacred geometry and teaching.
Do you have any other passions or personal goals that you would like to share?
Personal goal is to continue my healing and be in the best health I have been yet. From there – I imagine I will identify new goals.
What do you do for fun in your spare time? What are your hobbies?
I enjoy movies, travel, nature, quality time with friends and family, delicious food, live music, yoga, personal growth/development and dancing.
Share something unique that most people don’t know about you.
I am pretty transparent – but I suppose something new and not shared is that I would love to have a pilot’s license and be able to fly wherever I want and take my family/friends with me.
