Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique

There are many different techniques that chiropractors can use to alleviate pain or discomfort you may be feeling. A number of our physicians use the Active Release Technique.  Active release technique or active release therapy (ART) treats your body’s soft tissue by combining manipulation and movement. For some, it may take as little as one session to begin to feel relief.

ART entails identifying, isolating, and targeting the affected area to break up scar tissue. This promotes blood flow and faster healing of injuries. ART can be used to treat concerns in the following areas:

  • muscles
  • ligaments
  • tendons
  • nerves

When there is dense scar tissue built up, adhesions can form in the muscles and connective tissue – causing injury. Active Release Technique works to manipulate or break up these adhesions to alleviate pain. During an ART adjustment, the physician will feel the affected area and identify the scar tissue, isolate and target the area, and manipulate it to restore proper blood flow.

Common conditions that are treated using Active Release Technique are:

  • Lower back pain
  • Chronic neck pain
  • Tension headaches
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Shin Splits
  • Sciatic nerve pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Tennis Elbow
