Q&A with Dr. Cook
What are you most passionate about professionally? Personally?
Professionally I am most passionate about seeing patients get their lives back because they are no longer in pain or experience debilitating symptoms. I have often found when patients have been experiencing chronic pain or dysfunction they are no longer able to do the things they love which robs them of enjoyable experiences with people they love. I find they feel their life has been stolen from them in a sense. By improving their health and pain they are able to return to those activities and feel like they have more control over their lives and have gotten their lives back. There is no better feeling knowing you were able to help them return to loving their lives and not just surviving and getting through each day. Professionally I am also passionate about creating a clean home environment. There are so many toxins in our daily products and our food that fly under the radar and contribute to poor health. The sad part is that most people are not even aware it is negatively impacting health. By educating patient and cleaning up their food quality and the quality of everyday household products it drastically improves health and well being. I am passionate to educate patients on all aspects of health so they can empower themselves to make the health choice that are best for them.
What three traits define you?
Hardworking
Kind
Passionate
What would you do even if you didn’t get paid to do it?
Twofold. I would continue doing functional medicine as I love helping people and seeing them get breakthrough in their life and their health. Secondly I would do some kind of home reno. My parents have flipped several houses that I have helped with and I thoroughly enjoy the process. I love seeing the transformation and the creative process it entails.
What are you surprisingly good at?
Athletics and drawing.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
My faith and my family. Both keep me grounded and encourage me to be the best version of myself.
How long have you been working in your field?
Since 2018.
What’s the biggest proof that you’re good at what you do?
I think patient referrals and testimonials are the biggest proof. Patient continue to come back when they are experiencing difficulty in their health and they continue to refer others. I always say a patient referral is the highest compliment a provider can get.
What is your biggest accomplishment?
My Daughter. And being valedictorian in chiropractic school.
What is the weirdest job you’ve ever had?
I worked for a catering company for a short time in high school.
What problems do you consistently solve for your patients?
Navigating the confusion of chronic disease and musculoskeletal pain. Every aspect of medicine has its place from the ER to the school nurse. I have found that modern medicine has largely failed in improving chronic disease but rather settles for managing it which usually entails the patient have to live with some degree of chronic symptoms. This can be confusing because patient get a diagnosis but are often left with a solution of long term pharmaceutical management which only dampens their symptoms but does not heal their condition. By diving deeper and looking at the root cause and how the body functions we are often times able to improve health from the source rather than just dampen symptoms. I am passionate in helping patients solve this confusing problem of chronic illness by educating them on their condition and how to partner with how their body is working to heal the problem.
Who is your ideal patient and why should they connect with you?
My ideal client is someone who is committed to making the tough choice to improve their health. Change is hard and dealing with a chronic condition is hard . It takes commitment, patience and time to see it through to its conclusion. I would add that it doesn’t matter if they are already in good health and seeking to fine-tune or if they have had a chronic illness for 15 years and haven’t found lasting improvement. I want to help anyone who is invested in improving their health.
In your work or creative process, what concepts are sacred? Which rules have you made/followed?
There are a few things I try to hold true in the health process, one is that choice is necessary and secondly that patience and grace is paramount. I love to give my patients options and choice when managing their care. I find that by educating patients about their condition and what choices are best for their health and giving them options on the path forward they are much happier with the course of care and ultimately have better long term outcomes. It is empowering for them to know they are in the drivers seat and making educated choice about their health because they have the right information.
Do you have any other passions of personal goals that you would like to share?
I would love to expand my family and have more kids.
