Webster Technique
The Webster Technique is a gentle, evidence-based chiropractic approach that helps balance your pelvis and improve how it functions during pregnancy. By realigning the sacrum and the ilia and easing tension in surrounding ligaments, this technique creates a more comfortable environment for your baby. That often means better fetal positioning and less discomfort as you near your due date.
How the Webster Technique Works
Pelvic Alignment
Every session starts with your Webster-certified chiropractor checking how your sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of your spine) and ilia (the large pelvic “wings”) are sitting. Even small misalignments can limit space in your uterus. A careful, low‐force adjustment brings your pelvis back into neutral without any loud “cracking” sounds—just a gentle, sustained pressure.
Ligament Release
After checking alignment, your chiropractor uses hands-on soft-tissue work—think gentle stretching and myofascial release—to relax the round ligaments and nearby pelvic tissues. When those ligaments aren’t pulling the uterus out of place, it can settle into a more natural position.
Helping Your Baby Find the Right Position
Once your pelvis is balanced and ligament tension is reduced, there’s often extra room for your baby to flip into a head-down (vertex) position. That can lower the chance of breech or sideways (transverse) presentations in the last few weeks before labor.
Common Benefits
- Better fetal positioning—especially helpful if your baby is breech
- Reduced pelvic and back discomfort as pregnancy advances
- Balanced ligament tension around your pelvis
- Improved comfort and mobility throughout pregnancy
- Relaxing, pressure-based adjustments rather than forceful thrusts
What Some Patients Find Surprising
- Soft, Pressure-Based Adjustments: There’s no forceful cracking—just gentle, sustained contact. Most people find it calming rather than intense.
- Benefits Beyond Breech Correction: Even if your baby is already head-down, you might notice less pelvic pain or fewer pelvic floor issues.
- Customizable Timing: While many start around 28–32 weeks, you can begin earlier if you’re experiencing pelvic imbalance or discomfort. Your chiropractor will tailor the timing to what you need.
Evidence & Safety
Studies and clinical reports show that over 80% of pregnant people with non-vertex presentations (like breech) see their baby turn head-down after a series of Webster appointments. Although large randomized controlled trials are still in progress, decades of positive outcomes and growing clinical data support the safety and effectiveness of the Webster Technique when performed by a certified chiropractor.

What to Expect During a Webster Session
-
Intake & Assessment
We’ll review your pregnancy history, any discomfort you’re feeling, and any past treatments. With you fully clothed, your chiropractor will check how your sacrum is positioned and feel for any ligament tension.
-
Gentle Sacral Adjustment
Using sustained, low-force contact on the sacrum, we guide your pelvis back toward neutral alignment. There’s no jarring sounds—most people find it surprisingly soothing.
-
Soft-Tissue Techniques
Through myofascial release, gentle stretching, and other hands-on methods, we release tightness in your round ligaments and pelvic muscles.
-
Home Support
You’ll get simple pelvic-floor breathing exercises or light stretches to keep things balanced between visits.
-
Recommended Frequency
If your baby is breech, we often start with weekly treatments until the baby turns. Once your pelvis is balanced and your baby is head-down, we usually taper to every two weeks or once a month—whichever feels right for you.
